This Sunday, Laurie Roby is our lay preacher. In Laurie’s own words, “I have been a member of FCCW for 42 years. Originally from southern California, I have, over the years, migrated east with stops in Oklahoma, Missouri, Rhode Island and a brief stint in London following college. I have 2 children, Helen and George who were raised in this church and 4 granddaughters ages 16, 13, 11 and 18 months. Three live here in Massachusetts and the youngest is in Phoenix. I live in Arlington, MA and have recently retired. I currently serve on the Leadership Team and am one of our church’s delegates to the SNEUCC. I am a long time member of Ruth Group and Second Wednesday Bible Study. I love to walk the bike path in Arlington, read, attend music, dance and theater performances, and travel to see family and friends. I am also looking forward to having more time to pursue another passion – writing. 19 years ago I gave my first summer sermon, something else I enjoy and look forward to every year.” Laurie will preach on Luke 10:38-42, Jesus Visits Mary and Martha, through this theme: course correction. She will reflect on worry and distraction – how these may lead to isolation, despair and hopelessness; three things we need to correct our course – connection to God and each other, collaboration with God and each other and how worry and indeed hope is a choice – something we may need to do again and again. We hope you can join us in Ripley Chapel or online for music, prayer, and fellowship in service and worship of our loving God.
