The Afghan family that Immigrant Support Alliance (ISA) took on support for in March, 2024, has much to be thankful for.
Thanks:
Beginning in March of 2024, ISA has collaborated with Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Boston (CCAB) to support a family of four. The family—a mother, father, daughter (now 7), and son (now 6)–fled their home in Afghanistan and, after a stay in Pakistan, were granted refugee status. They arrived in the US in February. CCAB and ISA were able to secure an apartment in Medford close to stores and buses.
Since the family moved in, we at ISA have been very busy getting them settled. A trip to Mission of Deeds provided most of the furniture they needed. ISA volunteers helped the parents to enroll the children in school, learn how to use the public transportation system, shop for food, and find medical and dental care they needed.
FCCW members have helped with driving the children to summer camp and the adults to far-away medical appointments, provided backpacks and schools supplies, and to supply a much-needed piece of furniture that couldn’t be found at Mission of Deeds. Thanks so much!
The children are now attending school (Second Grade and Kindergarten respectively) and liking it very much. Both parents are attending classes at JVS Boston, an organization that provides English classes combined with job search workshops.
Great news! After attending classes at JVS, the dad (A) has a full-time job with a company at the airport. The mom (Z) continues to attend JVS classes and hopes to have a job soon.
