A Special Cabaret Concert featuring Ute Gfrerer. Please join us in the newly renovated Ripley Chapel for a dynamic and inspiring evening that features acclaimed international songstress Ute Gfrerer, with local superstar pianist, Scott Nicholas. Ms. Gfrerer’s extensive repertoire ranges from classical opera to operetta, from musical theatre to cabaret, chansons, and lieder. She is intrepid in her song choices and will offer selections from some of the theatre’s best composers and interpreters: Kurt Weill, Stephen Sondheim, Leonard Bernstein, Friedrich Hollaender (“Falling in Love Again” – think Marlene Dietrich!) and Edith Piaf.
Gfrerer uses every aspect of her unusually beautiful and multi-faceted voice and demonstrates a wide-ranging spectrum of sound and expression. She can be cheeky and vulnerable, sexy and demure, all within a highly skillful and dramatic context. Today, Gfrerer is considered to be one of the best interpreters of Kurt Weill‘s music, having sung and recorded many of his works. Her multi-decade career has brought her to major companies, festivals and concert halls around the world, including the Zurich Opera, Kurt Weill Festival in Dessau, the Vienna Volksoper, the Barbican Hall in London, the Alte Oper Frankfurt, the Salzburg Festival and the Cologne Philharmonie.
