This Week in Worship (Sunday, March 9, 2025)
The First Sunday in Lent leads us into the wilderness as it always does to accompany Jesus in his 40-day sojourn where he confronts the Devil, the one referred to as the Father of Lies. It takes all he has to hold to his truth and his purpose as God’s beloved son come to restore and to save, not to conquer and dominate. The devil has other ideas for him. What might the story have to say to us today in a world of falsehoods, disinformation, and the devotion to “strongmen”? To balance out the heavier theme here at the start of Lent we will have the blessing of baptizing one of our church children, Josie R. who will be joined by her family for the occasion.
