Would you like to volunteer to help recent immigrants? Can you open your arms – and maybe your home?
This 2023-2024 year, Immigrant Support Alliance, (formerly known as the Metro North Cluster/RIM) is working with a 37 year-old man from Haiti who will arrive this month and a family from Afghanistan that is here already (and housed!) but needs help with learning English, finding better jobs. In addition, we have a 51 year-old woman from Haiti, whom we have sponsored but has not arrived in the United States yet. While we wait, we will be looking to find a host home for her.
It takes a village to welcome and support people who have left their homeland behind and are trying to establish a new, safe life in our local community. There are numerous big and small ways to help.
Maybe you could drive a client to a medical appointment or the grocery store, practice conversational English with them, share your computer skills, be a host family or help with navigating the world of healthcare and schools. Our personal volunteer experiences over more than six years have been extremely rewarding.
ISA welcomes you to join us in this important and continuing mission of First Congregational Church, Winchester. Feel free to email or catch us at church if you have questions.
