While they were there, the time came for her to deliver her child. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in bands of cloth, and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.Luke 2: 6-7
As we enter the advent season, and joyfully await the celebration of Christ’s birth, we can reflect from our homes on our many blessings – including having a home, a roof over our head, and a bed in which to get a good night’s sleep. We all know the classic story “The Night Before Christmas”, where the “children are nestled all snug in their beds”. Let us help make that a reality for children experiencing poverty and homelessness in our community this Christmas. The Mission and Outreach Ministry is pleased to share this year’s recipient of our annual Christmas offering – The Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless: A Bed For Every Child Program.
As described by their program, “MCH launched A Bed for Every Child nine years ago, with a simple but impactful mission to deliver beds, free of cost, to children growing up in poverty throughout the Commonwealth. A Bed for Every Child has long believed that an education is one of the ways a child growing up in poverty can break the cycle as an adult. We know that with a good night’s sleep a child can concentrate on their schoolwork. But it begins with having a bed.”
The generosity of our congregation has made a significant difference throughout the years in bringing comfort and joy to the less fortunate in our community. If you would like to participate in this special Christmas offering, write a check to First Congregational Church Winchester with “Christmas Offering” in the memo line and mail it to 21 Church Street, Winchester, MA 01890. You can also Venmo your offering, with the designation “Christmas Offering”.
Your Outreach Ministry is honored to be entrusted with sharing your generous giving as we spread the love of Christ to those in need this holiday season. Let us care for our community’s vulnerable children and provide them the comfort of a bed, and a better chance to succeed.
