As we enter a unique holiday season, with all the challenges and restrictions the pandemic imposes, we are presented with another joyful opportunity to make life a little brighter for those who are experiencing personal struggles in meeting life’s demands. The Outreach Ministry is excited to share this year’s recipient of our annual Christmas offering—CommonTable. It is an outstanding program from CommonWealth Kitchen of Boston. CommonWealth Kitchen supports both culturally diverse food-based businesses hit hard by the pandemic and our food-insecure neighbors by connecting them in mutually beneficial community with each other.
Their website best describes the initiative:
“Our CommonWealth Kitchen community of food trucks, caterers, restaurants, bakers and product companies have been devastated by the COVID pandemic. Most have shuttered. The handful that are operating, are struggling to navigate a path forward in these very uncertain times. Never ones to sit down for long, CommonWealth Kitchen’s determined community of entrepreneurs have rallied together to launch a new initiative we’re calling CommonTable. CommonTable leverages our powerful network of member food businesses, neighborhood restaurants, farm partners, and community-based organizations to produce delicious, culturally diverse, prepared meals to feed families in need — because when you have more than you need, you build a longer table, not a higher fence. It’s a community response to a community crisis.”
The generosity of this congregation has made a substantial difference time and time again in bringing relief and joy to the less fortunate. If you would like to participate in this special Christmas offering, write a check to First Congregational Church Winchester with “Christmas offering” in the memo line and mail it to 21 Church St., Winchester, MA 01890. You can also Venmo your offering, with the designation “Christmas offering.”
Your Outreach Ministry deems it such a privilege to be entrusted with sharing your unselfish giving as we spread the love of Christ to those who need a helping hand this holiday season. We will indeed provide a Christmas feast!
Peace,
The Mission and Outreach Ministry Team: Betsy Goodell, Laura Bailey, Julia Daggett, Sarah Girotti, Rev. Will Burhans, Leonore Eforo, Lauren Siebold, and Janet Vaughn.
