Wednesday, February 14, is the beginning of Lent; the period of forty days, not counting Sundays, which begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on the Saturday before Easter. The forty days represent the time Jesus spent in the wilderness, enduring the temptation of Satan and preparing to begin his ministry.Lent is an intensely penitential time of self examination and repentance. It is a time to open the doors of our hearts a little wider and understand our Lord a little deeper, so that when Good Friday and eventually Easter comes, it is not just another day at church but an opportunity to receive the overflowing of graces God has to offer. We offer a Lenten Devotional to help us with this process. It is called Sacred Reading and has a day by day scripture and prayer practice. These will be available at the rear of the Sanctuary on Ash Wednesday and on the table in the lobby thereafter.
